We all want our clothes to last longer, and we all want to make sure that we’re taking care of our planet in the process. As a brand, we’re committed to sourcing products in an ethically, socially and environmentally responsible manner. To support this, we have created a clothing care guide to not only extend the life cycle of your clothes but so we can work together to a more sustainable future.
WASH LESS
Washing your clothes after each wear can be tempting, but this shortens the life of your garments, is hurting the environment and is putting pressure on your wallet. Try airing out your garments and make it a habit to spot clean stains instead of using the washing machine. This will allow you to wear your clothes up to 2-4 times before washing them again.
WASH WITH CARE
Make sure to always read the fabric and care instructions outlined on the garment. Each individual product has care labels inside, however, aim to wash your clothes at low temperatures. To save on water and energy, make sure to fill your washing machine and wash garments with similar care instructions. Be mindful of fabrics, particularly linen shirts, and separating light from darker clothes.
CHANGE TO ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS
Traditional laundry detergents are full of toxic chemicals that are bad for the environment and the longevity of our clothes. Choose eco-friendly products which are just as effective, and make sure to avoid fabric softeners and bleach. These products are damaging your fabrics and hindering breathability and absorbency.
DRY MINDFULLY
One of the easiest and most significant ways you can save both your clothes and the planet is by skipping the dryer, instead air dry your clothes. Although it can be nice to use the dryer to iron out the wrinkles, this can be avoided by removing your damp clothes from the washing machine as soon as possible and gently shaking them out and hanging them to dry. This is extra effective for linen shirts and dress shirts that crease easily and need that extra care when drying.
SUIT AND BLAZER CARE
Many of us take our suits and blazers to the dry cleaners when they need to be cleaned, but this is bad for the environment, your wallet and can cause your garments to degrade overtime. The easiest way to care for your suit and blazers at home is purchasing a brush, this removes lint and other gunk from the fibres. Make sure to also create space in your wardrobe for your suits and blazers and to store them in garment bags to keep them extra fresh.
